Create at NEST is a not for profit enterprise run in partnership by Rachel Bower and Tracie Dick.
Our aim is to provide affordable work studios plus workshop, teaching and meeting space for artists, crafters and makers within our local community, all within an open plan environment.
NEST came about when Rachel was looking for new studio premises, having outgrown her kitchen and shed workshop. Tracie was looking for an alternative career having been made redundant and has always enjoyed being crafty! Both had been involved with a group of local artists discussing the need for creative facilities in the area and sharing ideas on how that could be achieved, potentially as a Social Enterprise. However it was evident that it would take some time to get this up and running, so they decided to go it alone.
The original plan for NEST has evolved based on the interest received, plus the large footfall past the premises, so now also offers the opportunity to promote and/or sell your work by hiring window space or having products within the small shop on the ground floor.
There are 4 kilns on site belonging to Rachel Bower, the resident Fused Glass designer. Rachel provides on site kiln technician services to anyone wishing to fire their work, just contact us for further details.
NEST will continue to evolve based on the demand from the local creative community and so we can make the most of the space we have available.
